BIG SKIES

Animal Pictures

That shot of cows is the best I have ever taken. We were travelling on Telegraph Road to Ashburton, (I like that route because the sky is so big there, hardly any pine hedges) and there were scattered bunches of clouds rolling across the sky. As we passed a large paddock of cows, I tried snapping a picture, and after four attempts, I took the perfect scene. It showed the cows grazing in the half light of the sun crossing the edge of the clouds, only one cow contemplating on the traffic.

As the lambing season approaches a close, I have included a picture of sunning lambs. Due to the arrival of a dairy goat and its kid, we did not request for orphan lambs to look after this year. Our pet lambs (ewes) from last year had varied reactions to the arrival of the newborn kid. One was extremly scared after sniffing noses with the kid, another was very curious, and the last kept trying to butt the tiny kid through the wire fence, but was not very sucessful. We also temporarily clothed the kid with a woolen cardigan for a while for warmth.
